Lymphedema Treatment Program

Man getting wound checked

Primary Lymphedema can represent a developmental abnormality of the lymphate system. More commonly, lymphedema is caused by surgery, radiation, trauma, infection and malignant tumors. This is called secondary lymphedema.

A lymphedema management program is available at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline. Patients are treated three to five times a week. A typical session is one hour and consists of skin care, education, manual lymph drainage, bandaging and exercise. Manual lymph drainage looks much like a massage, but is actually a series of superficial strokes to move the fluid out of the affected part of the body. Each of our sites is staffed with a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT).
