Lymphedema Treatment Program
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System has three lymphedema management programs in Corpus Christi to serve you. Primary Lymphedema can represent a developmental abnormality of the lymphate system. More commonly, lymphedema is caused by surgery, radiation, trauma, infection and malignant tumors. This is called secondary lymphedema.
Lymphedema Treatment Programs are located at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi—Shoreline and South and at the CHRISTUS Spohn Family Health Center—Padre Island. Patients are treated three to five times a week. A typical session is one hour and consists of skin care, education, manual lymph drainage, bandaging and exercise. Manual lymph drainage looks much like a massage, but is actually a series of superficial strokes to move the fluid out of the affected part of the body. Each of our sites is staffed with a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT).
