Clinical Pastoral Education Program

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi—Memorial's Clinical Pastoral Education Program provides education in the pastoral care of persons receiving treatment in a multidiscipline, faith-based trauma hospital. The program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi—Memorial is a Level II Trauma center with a large Behavioral Medicine Department. The CHRISTUS Spohn Health System consists of 6 hospitals in the Coastal Bend, 3 of them in the rural area. CHRISTUS Spohn is part of the National CHRISTUS Health System, a caring, faith based health care organization which mission it is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Our CPE Residency program consists of four 400 hour units of CPE, focusing on pastoral theology, grief and loss, developmental and behavioral theories, group and systems theory, bioethics, cultural and pastoral identity formation, level I/II consultations, Spanish language, Latino Cultures, and providing spiritual care to all, especially to the underserved. A large group of staff chaplains and two CPE supervisors – Michael Saxton and Mirjam Berger, will support CPE students in their learning process.
