Technology and Expertise
CHRISTUS Spohn was one of the first cardiac centers in Texas to use angioplasty to unblock an artery and one of the first to perform valvuloplasty to repair valves. The first permanent pacemaker in the area was implanted at CHRISTUS Spohn. Since the inception of the cardiac surgery program in 1981, CHRISTUS Spohn Heart Institute has performed more than 50,000 cardiac surgeries, more than any other facility in the area.
In 1999, HCIA, Inc., recognized CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi–Shoreline—home base of the CHRISTUS Spohn Heart Institute—as one of the top 100 cardiovascular hospitals in the United States.
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System offers a network of four hospitals: CHRISTUS Spohn Hospitals Alice, Beeville, Corpus Christi, Kleberg. In Corpus Christi there are three campuses—Memorial, Shoreline and South. Patients at any of the six facilities receive the benefit of the expertise, knowledge and level of care provided by the CHRISTUS Spohn Heart Institute.
