National Accreditation by Commission on Cancer
Leading the fight against cancer
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi’s Cancer Program is region’s only nationally accredited Cancer Program. The Cancer Program is accredited by American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and received the highest approval rating (Commendation). Full compliance ratings were awarded for all 36 standards. Commendation for the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Program is awarded in four areas:
- Perfect quality of data submitted to the National Cancer Database by the Cancer Registry
- Excellent physician staging documentation
- Prevention and early detection programs
- Implementation of cancer-related improvements to program each year
Currently almost 1,500 facilities have gained approval of their cancer program in the US. It is estimated that Approved Programs annually diagnose and treat 80% of all new cancer cases. This statistic emphasizes the level of commitment to resources that Commission-approved programs have made to the care of patients with cancer.
2009 marks the 45th anniversary of having an approved cancer program for CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi.
