Breast Feeding Services

More women are choosing to breastfeed their babies for both nutrition and bonding purposes. As a woman progresses through her pregnancy and makes preparations for her baby, she may wonder how she should prepare for breastfeeding. With shorter hospital stays, breastfeeding is usually not established by the time mother and baby go home.

In addition, some mothers have problems with breastfeeding, and friends and family may offer conflicting advice. The Breastfeeding Resource Center's breastfeeding educators and lactation consultants can provide sensible guidelines, information, resources and support to enhance your breastfeeding experience.

CHRISTUS Spohn Health System provides continuing resources for breastfeeding families that include:

  • Telephone counseling by a lactation consultant or a certified breastfeeding educator.
  • Assistance in the hospital by a lactation consultant or a certified breastfeeding educator.
  • Outpatient consultations with a lactation consultant after discharge.
  • Rental or purchase of high-quality electric breast pumps.
  • Availability of breastfeeding-related equipment and nursing bras for purchase.
  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition services.

For more information, call the CHRISTUS Spohn HealthLine at 881-3103 or 1-800-247-6574.

Lactation consultant fees are based on length of visit and may be covered under your insurance. Call 985-5273 for more information.
