Benefits Offered
Instant Benefits
On the first day of employment, all new, full-time associates (32 hours/week or more) are immediately enrolled in CORE benefits at no cost to the associate. These benefits include basic CORE health coverage, term life insurance, long-term disability and vision care.
Associates have the option of changing their CORE coverage and the opportunity to enroll in other benefit plans. These changes would be effective after 90 days of employment.
Medical
We provide a choice of affordable health care plans to help you best manage your medical, vision care and prescription drug expenses, as well as those of your eligible dependents.
The CORE Health Plan is free to eligible associates. The plan includes a $350 deductible, $20 co-pay for physician visits, $25 annual wellness co-pay, prescription plan through CAREMARK, and vision care through Spectera ($10 co-pay for exam and $25 co-pay for materials).
The High Health Plan is available at a higher premium and includes a $200 deductible and $20 co-pay for physician visits. It also includes the same wellness, prescription plan, and vision care package as the CORE Health Plan.

Dental
Dental coverage reflects CHRISTUS Health’s commitment to helping you and your family maintain good dental health. The plan emphasizes preventive care (paid at 100% with no deductible) and covers a wide range of services from regular checkups to braces for your children.
The pay period (bi-weekly) premiums for the CHRISTUS Health Dental Plan are $11.00 for the associate, $22.00 for associate and spouse, $22.00 for associate and child(ren), and $32.50 for entire family.
After a $50 individual deductible has been met, the plan pays 80% for basic services and 50% for major services. Orthodontics is available with a lifetime deductible of $50 and lifetime maximum benefit of $1,500. Dependents under 19 years of age are eligible for the orthodontics benefit of the dental plan.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Two types of flexible spending accounts are offered by CHRISTUS Spohn Health System that allow you to reimburse yourself for health care expenses not covered by the medical plan and dependent day care expenses with pretax dollars. These accounts save you tax dollars from your income.
You decide how much you want to put into a spending account (maximum $4,800 with each account), and a portion of the amount is deducted from each paycheck during the year.
Eligible health care expenses include the following: deductibles and co-payments, acupuncture, vision care, hearing exams, hearing aids (including batteries), physical exams, chiropractor expenses, vaccinations, physical therapy, over-the-counter drugs, and any other medical expenses that qualify as medical expenses under the United States Internal Revenue Code.
Eligible dependent care services include a child care center, baby-sitter in or outside of your home, a nurse at home, and maids or housekeepers if their employment is in substantial part related to dependent care.
Term Life Insurance
Full-time associates receive a CORE life insurance benefit equal one times base annual pay up to $50,000 paid for by CHRISTUS Spohn Health System.
If you choose, you can supplement your CORE life insurance by purchasing up to two, three, or four times your base annual pay.
Disability
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System offers disability benefits to make sure you and your dependents have an income if a disability keeps you from working. We offer both long-term and short-term disability plans available at a variety of levels of coverage.
Short-term Disability
Short-term Disability coverage is available to you if desired at the
following rates of your base salary prior to your disability and after
you have been out of work after the stated number of days.
Long-term Disability
Long-term Disability coverage is available to you in the event you have
been out of work for at least 180 days or your short-term disability coverage
has expired. Two options are offered.
Option 1 offers 40% of pre-disability monthly earnings (paid for by CHRISTUS Spohn Health System as part of your CORE benefits package.) Option 2 offers 60% of pre-disability monthly earnings.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
You can purchase AD&D insurance for yourself and your eligible dependents. This benefit plan will pay the amount of AD&D you choose in the event of accidental death and a portion of the amount you choose in the event of certain accidental injuries. This benefit is paid in addition to associate life insurance and dependent life insurance coverage.
Cash Balance Retirement Plan
The Cash Balance Plan is provided at no cost. You are automatically enrolled in the plan after one year of employment (you must have worked a minimum of 1500 hours during that year). All associates are eligible to receive this benefit if they meet the 1500 hours requirement.
Annually, CHRISTUS Spohn contributes an amount equal to 6 percent of your annual base pay to your Cash Balance Account. Your account will gain interest at a rate between 4 and 8 percent which is compounded annually.
You are vested in the plan on a graduated schedule with full vesting at five years of employment.
Matched Savings Plan
The optional Matched Savings Plan provides tax advantages now and in the future by allowing you to save for your future while reducing your taxes today through a 403(b) retirement plan. Part-time and flex associates are eligible to participate in this program, however an associate must have worked a minimum 1500 hours in a year to receive the matching benefit. CHRISTUS Spohn Health System matches your contributions at 50 cents on every dollar up to the first 4 percent of your pay which you choose to contribute.
Each pay period you simply put aside part of your pay on a pre-tax basis and let it grow, tax-deferred, until you receive it. The Matched Savings Plan is portable, and it is fully vested after five years.
Educational Assistance
All full-time associates are eligible for assistance at the time of hire. You may be reimbursed up to $3,000 per calendar year for tuition and fees upon your successful completion of college-accredited courses.
CHRISTUS Spohn also offers courses free of charge through its new Associate Academy, and the CHRISTUS Spohn Grow-Our-Own program allows associates to complete education programs that certify associates to take a position in a hard-to-fill position while still working part-time to support yourself or family.
Child Care
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System provides a state-licensed day care center on the CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Memorial campus. The center features 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week operation for children from infants through 12 years. Tuition for the center is low-cost and, as an added convenience, is payroll-deducted.
Paid Time Off
All full-time and part-time associates working 20 hours or more per week are eligible to earn paid time off. Annual maximum accrual is 20 days a year including holidays and vacation.
Extended Illness Bank (EIB)
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System provides protection for associates against loss of income sustained because of illness. EIB accrues at a maximum rate of five days per year.
Credit Union
Associates and their immediate families are eligible for credit union membership which offers a full range of banking services, including savings and checking accounts and low-interest loans.
Associate Parking
All associates have access to free parking at several secured lots surrounding each facility.
Associate Dining
Associates receive discounted meals at any of our hospital facilities, and as a convenience to associates, meals may be payroll deducted.
