About CHRISTUS Spohn Health System

CHRISTUS Spohn Health System is a faith-based, not-for-profit health care system dedicated to advancing the health of our community by providing them with excellent care, quality services and state-of-the-art technology. For the past century, CHRISTUS Spohn’s mission has been to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to every patient, regardless of ability to pay. We are the region’s largest not-for-profit hospital system in South Texas, providing health care to more than 600,000 residents in the 13 counties we serve.

Being not-for-profit means being socially accountable and reinvesting revenue back into our system to pay operational costs and purchase the advanced technology that enables us to offer cutting edge, quality health care to every patient. Not for profit status requires us to make providing charity care our business, but doing so is also our mission.

CHRISTUS Spohn Health System is the region's largest charity care provider and not-for-profit health care system consisting of six hospital campuses—CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi (Shoreline, Memorial and South), CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Beeville and CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Kleberg (Kingsville). The health system is consistently ranked as a leading health system in the area and has received national recognition for several pioneering programs, including cardiac care, clinical excellence and oncology. For more than 100 years, CHRISTUS Spohn has been distinguished by its high caliber staff and affiliated physicians, its comprehensive and innovative services, and its long history of responding to the needs of the community it serves.

Sponsorship

CHRISTUS Health is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of San Antonio, which were founded more than 130 years ago in response to Bishop Claude Marie Dubuis' call: "Our Lord Jesus Christ, suffering in the persons of a multitude of sick and infirm of every kind, seeks relief at your hands."
